2015 UCLA Global Forum in Hong Kong

UCLA’s inaugural Global Forum was held in Hong Kong on Friday, June 19. The event included a round table discussion on the role and impact of higher education and a networking reception. Panel speakers spoke about exciting innovations in medicine and the environment and addressed such topics as how best to prepare university students for entry into the career market. 

Speakers from UCLA included Chancellor Gene Block and Vice Provost for International Studies and Global Engagement Cindy Fan. Local expert panelists included Tai-fai Fok, professor of pediatrics and pro-vice-chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Gabriel Leung, epidemiologist and dean of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at University of Hong Kong; Walton Li (UCLA MD 1974), founder and head of the ophthalmology department at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital and a longtime supporter of UCLA; and Christine Loh, undersecretary for the environment in the Hong Kong government and a previous UCLA commencement speaker.

The event concluded with a campus update provided by Chancellor Gene Block, a message about local alumni activities from Christopher Cheng (UCLA BA 2002), and a networking reception.
