Philip Hsu
Philip Hsu received his PhD in Chinese Buddhist Studies. He has a BA in history from National Chengchi University and MA in Buddhist history from National Tsinghua University. By examining a series of Buddhist monastic gazetteers compiled since the 17th century, Philip’s dissertation highlights the historical and religious significance of Buddhist monastic gazetteers as a genre in Chinese Buddhist history. He is interested in research topics on the socio-economic history of the Chan (Zen) school, Buddhist historiography, state-religion relationship, and monasticism in the East Asian context.
