How do you think UCLA prepares students to fill positions that have a global reach and influence?
UCLA's Executive MBA program offers a uniquely comprehensive preparation for roles with global reach and influence. From my own experience, the program provides a curriculum that balances foundational business knowledge with specialized courses in leadership, international strategy, and cultural intelligence—skills crucial for managing cross-border operations. The diverse cohort and faculty bring varied perspectives from around the world, encouraging us to approach problems with a global mindset.
What sort of opportunities has working abroad presented you with?
Working abroad has opened up incredible opportunities for both my career and our company's impact. Expanding our startup across three African countries has enabled us to deliver affordable, high-quality software solutions to government institutions within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. This journey has allowed me to understand and address the unique challenges faced by emerging markets, particularly in leveraging technology for public services.
What would you say to a UCLA student who is planning on having an international career?
To a UCLA student aspiring to build an international career, I would say: embrace the opportunity to learn from diverse perspectives and prepare to adapt continuously. Working across borders brings unique challenges, from understanding cultural nuances to navigating varied regulatory environments. Approach each new culture with respect and humility, and remember that international work is about partnership as much as expertise.

As a land grant institution, the International Institute at UCLA acknowledges the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (Los Angeles basin, Southern Channel Islands).

Equity, diversity and inclusion are essential values of the UCLA International Institute. These professed ideals enable us to provide the kind of broad, global, multicultural educational experience central to the Institute’s academic programs. As a gateway to the world for the campus and the greater Los Angeles community, the Institute considers equity, diversity and inclusion essential to its mission of educating global citizens and preparing them for a multicultural world and collaborative problem solving.
