What inspired or motivated you to pursue work abroad? Was this always your plan?
My motivation to work abroad stemmed from a deep desire to learn from others and immerse myself in different cultures. I was drawn to the opportunity to gain firsthand understanding of diverse societies and perspectives, believing this knowledge would be invaluable. From the outset, my plan was to gain international experience with the specific intention of returning to my home country and exploring regional opportunities, leveraging the global insights I had acquired.
Can you speak a little bit about your career and how it has progressed since graduating from UCLA?
After UCLA, I lectured in Singapore while pursuing my passion for innovation, transitioning from serial entrepreneur to running a growth incubator/accelerator where I support startups and accelerate their growth. My diverse career underscores the importance of adaptability, vision, and strong networks. UCLA's diverse environment and world-class faculty fostered my global perspective, critical thinking, and openness to new possibilities, proving instrumental in my career.
What would you say to a UCLA student who is planning on having an international career?
Go global, experience and learn. Learning never stops and global careers offer invaluable exposure to diverse cultures. Don't limit yourself and explore the world openly, learning different behaviors and practices. Embrace challenges and expand your horizons, through international work or collaborations to build a crucial global mindset, building your knowledge, experience, and skills.
Are you involved in any international UCLA alumni groups or support networks?
I am actively involved with the UCLA alumni community, currently serving as President of the Singapore Network, after 18 years on the committee. Giving back is my way of paying it forward as UCLA connections evolve into lifelong relationships and support.
